Do you like art challenges? I personally love them! I think this is such a great way to try new things and get out of your comfort zone—which is the goal of a challenge, right?
Some of them are well-known, such as Inktober (that takes place in October) and Mermay (that doesn’t take place in April contrary to what we could believe, but in May). You’re then given prompts that you can interpret as you want, and… that’s basically it!
I’ve already taken part in many challenges (Inktober a few years ago, Mermay this year, some Christmas art challenges last year, a tons of “Draw this in your style”s, etc.), but I had never hosted one before today!
So, I’m super excited to announce that I’m hosting, along with other illustrators, an Instagram art challenge for the month of August! It’s called “Twisted Summer”, and you’ll be given four prompts related to Summer.
The “launching post” has just been shared on Instagram, on Lysified’s profile, so I can talk about these prompts and the challenge without worrying too. Much! Here are the different dates for each prompt:
1-7 August: Neon Summer
8-15 August: Cosy Campfire
16-21 August: Enchanting Trails
22-31 August: Falling Skies
Just like the other art challenges, you are free to interpret these prompts as you want, and what you create can be done in any medium that you want to use. All you have to remember is… this is a ‘twisted’ summer, so, do not forget to include a little ‘extra’ something! Will your summer actually be a super creepy one? Or maybe an absolutely funny or magical one? Are these alien-chicken falling from the sky? And this beautiful flower field, are these… carnivorous plants?!
Anyone who wants to join this challenge is welcome, of course! If you want the hosts and the other participants to see your posts, you can include the hashtag #TwistedSummer2022, and you can also tag the different hosts on your posts if you’d like. We’ll be sharing entries in our Stories, and some winners will be announced by the month of September!
